HISTORY
MTL was born to facilitate card transactions. From a startup company founded in 1982 to support the production of magnetic stripe cards for the BART system in San Francisco, MTL has grown and continues to be a leader that supports not only the needs of transportation providers but also others that use printed media to facilitate stored value and payment network transactions.
Through the acquisition of the former Rand McNally & Co. DocuSystems operations in 2000, MTL gained extensive experience in the expanding prepaid and payment card market. The knowledge, experience, and intellectual property gained through the acquisition were a tremendous complement to the sound foundation established by MTL.
The innovative spirit continues today by leveraging the company’s experience to support client needs in new technology areas such as RFID-enabled labels for retail and industrial asset tracking and NFC tap points that enabled enhanced consumer engagement through extended interactions that leverage smartphone capabilities.
